Why Parents Wanted?

Family Services of Metro Orlando needs emotionally giving, dedicated people to become foster and adoptive parents. More importantly, the children and youth who have come under our care need you.

As the population of our service area grows, so does the need for qualified, licensed foster parents to provide a nurturing family setting, and adoptive parents to provide a loving “forever family.”

In either way, you can help a child become a stable adult capable of creating a positive future for themselves and others. Parents are wanted because the problem is bigger than you may think:

  • Central Florida has the highest incidence of child abuse and neglect complaints in the state with the second-highest incidence of child abuse and neglect complaints in the nation.
  • Family Services guarantees care for more than 1,000 children in foster care annually.
  • There are approximately 350 foster homes in the Orlando area – but twice that number is needed to meet the growing demand for care.
  • The number of Orlando-area children eligible for adoption can fill 15 classrooms.

The goal of foster care is to provide safe shelter until the child’s family can provide safety and parental support. Foster parents participate as team members to achieve this goal of reunification between child and family. Successful foster parents care deeply but learn to let go when the time comes.

Most adults 21 years and older who can provide a stable, loving home to a child can foster or adopt, including those who are married, single, divorced, widowed and of all religious faiths, races and education levels. You do not need to be married, wealthy, or young to foster or adopt a child from foster care.

If you are the kind of person who receives their greatest rewards by giving, becoming a foster or adoptive parent can provide a world of fulfillment.
