About Us

Family Services of Metro Orlando (FSMO) is the lead agency for Community-Based Care in Florida's Orange and Osceola counties. It was founded on the principle that responsibility for the welfare of children is shared equally among a variety of individuals and organizations within the community, including citizens, schools, businesses and other groups.

The purpose of Community-Based Care is to shift the responsibility of direct child welfare services from the Department of Children and Families to lead agencies around the state to improve the safety and well-being of children.

FSMO has contracts with five Case Management Organizations (CMOs) which provide direct services to children and families, including foster care and adoption. It also has contracts with a variety of community providers which offer other services to support children and families.

FSMO and its CMOs are finding permanency for hundreds of children — rounding out fiscal year 2005 with nearly 100 adoptions and helping more than 700 children become reunited with birth families or permanently placed with relative caregivers.
